About me and my trip:
I go to a university that makes learning an adventure. I learn how to learn, how to question and find answers. I learn how to meaningfully contribute to the world around me. I learn how to take care of myself, but also how to seek help, and how to help others. During June and July of summer 2014, I study abroad in Alicante, Spain. I go abroad alongside the 50% of my school's students, who study abroad sometime during their time at Southwestern.
I selected Spain as my destination for several reasons.
I selected Spain as my destination for several reasons.
- I have Spanish linguistic background. from 5 years of Spanish class..
- ...but scarce familiarity with Hispanic culture (this would be direly useful in Mexico's neighbor and my home, Texas)
- ...and with European culture. (this would be direly useful in a primarily European-influenced culture and my home, America)
- In order to interact with diverse people (which I must do regardless what paths I take), I need to live among diverse people.
- Living thousands of miles away from my family and my hometown is a brand new journey to me.
- I have brains in my head and feet in my shoes, at their peak in my young age. I will confront the discomfort of cultural differences while I have the energy to do so.
