Discovering sites and wandering in and out of shops or stands, with the complete freedom of lingering or leaving, spice my Hogueras experience. I had always hoped to explore a foreign city independently, so my personal interests and reactions don't hinder anybody else. My day is not commanded by a schedule, but my curiosity and energy. I walk not aiming for a meeting point, but for discovery. Though I bear no adversity for my classmates attending midnight discotecas or bull-fights, I feel immensely fortunate to watch dancers with fire-alighted fans in the parade, befriend 70-year-old Spanish books at an antique stand, and absorb the histories of each ninot- in the comfort of my independence.
