My classmates watched the bull-fight this evening, but I decided to walk along the Explanada instead. (Bull-fighting entails fighting bulls to their deaths. I adore bovines too much to observe such a show). Here were the Hogueras festivities that I observed thus far:
The ninots are planted!
The streets become so Spanish- bright with colors, surrealism, and a warm celebratory atmosphere.

A very tall mermaid greets Alicante.
There were artistic food stands with the largest plates and pans I have ever seen. I tried a chocolate churro and can never enjoy a Texas churro again.
I finally discovered a tea shop after three weeks of high-caffeinated coffee. I assume the taste of the rooibos tea was so rich because Spain neighbors Africa and its rooibos leaves are fresh and authentic.
